Returning once again to the EPA’s Documerica series, we find two parking lot scenes taken outside major airports in 1973. The first, by Michael Philip Manheim, shows the parking lot for an airline food services building under construction outside Logan Airport in Boston. My quick observation: Many of you have previously noted the absence or inclusion of trucks in older photos. Here, one would expect plenty of trucks, driven by the construction workers putting up the building, but we only see a handful. Also, Mavericks!
Next, what appears to be a parking lot for airline passengers outside John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, shot by Arthur Tress in May of 1973. That VW sticks out like a sore thumb, doesn’t it? What do you see in these two photos?
